YotaPhone is developed by a Russian company, Yota Devices, which is a private company dedicated to mobile communications & connectivity devices. The YotaPhone features an LCD screen on one side & an Electronic Paper Display (EPD) on the other side which provides an appearance like a paper written with an ink. The phone is available in Russia & several other European countries from Wednesday.
The phone is designed in such a way that EPD always remains on. The company has taken care that the EPD should be less disturbing & more user-friendly. The user will be able to see notices, messages, emails, calendar, tweets & other information without picking up or activating the phone. The latest data on the EPD remains visible to the user, even if the battery becomes empty. To keep the battery consumption the EPD does not have to go dark. User can use EPD to save important data. The user has complete freedom to save anything like a route on the map, a boarding pass or a theatre ticket.
The phone looks similar to Amazon Kindle & it also gives a tough fight to it in case of an e-Reader. The EPD is designed in such a way that it gives a very comfortable reading experience even if a user is reading something in bright sunlight. The user is getting a perfect Smartphone & an e-reader in one device instead of two. The phone will be sold for around $675 in Europe & for $600 in Russia. The company has kept the prices a little bit lower than its competitors in the market like Apple iPhone5 & Samsung Galaxy S4.
YotaPhone comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 & has a dual core 1.7 GHz Krait CPU. The phone has 4.3” capacitive multi-touch LCD main screen with 720×1280 picture resolution and 4.3” EPD with 360×640 resolution. YotaPhone has 13 MP auto focus camera with LED flash & also has 1MP front camera. The phone has 2GB RAM with 32GB eMMC. The phone has 1800mAh battery & the features include Accelerometer, Gyroscope ,Compass, Ambient light sensor,Proximity sensor, FM Radio, special YotaPhone gestures & Put2Back applications in support of the back screen. YotaPhone has a sensor in its camera to detect if a person whose photo is getting clicked is not smiling so that the user should not miss a perfect happy smiling moment. The YotaPhone asks for Help when its battery is down.
