At CES 2014 in next month LG will be showing off their new technology with improved smart appliances that will make use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) which will allow users to share content and interact with LG Home appliances. The interaction between users and smart appliances will take through popular instant messaging app Line and LG’s own HomeChatTM service.
Smart appliances will have the ability to interact with user by natural language with messages like “I am going out for Christmas vacations and will return in 5 days” and the smart appliance will respond to users message by saying for instance “Should I turn on the vacation mode?” If the user responds yes then refrigerator will turn on power saving mode. Isn’t it cool?
With such a technology user can able to be in touch with their appliances like refrigerator, oven, washing machine etc. User can get real time status updates and also user can upload images for their family members. The owner can use the Smartphones or LCD panel through the LG Smart Refrigerator application to know what’s inside the refrigerator without even opening the door.
HOM-BOT SQUARE, vacuum cleaners will have the ability to clean the room at a particular time depending on personal preferences of the owner. They can even ask HOM-BOT SQUARE ‘When the last cleaning was done?’ using LG’s HomeChat. Also users can control HOM-BOT SQUARE’s action manually using HomeChat. The washing machine using HomeChat can download up-to-date wash cycles to suit their different needs. It can also be used to monitor the current state of the washer, receive alerts via LG Smart TV or Smartphone when a wash cycle is complete. Owner of LG’s smart oven can interact with their smart oven using Recipe Search and HomeChatTM, to suggest recipes for dishes and check kind of ingredients required. This saves the time and also reduces the work of manually setting the cooking mode. It will also recommend users to come up with new and tasty meals, by giving recipe updates.
