Right now many apps are ad-supported, and Steve Jobs said Apple can do a better job. Apple figures right now it could push 1 billion ad impressions a day. Jobs said Apple wants to improve the ad platform with interactive and video content. This is interesting because it’s completely outside of Apple’s core markets and obviously squarely in Google’s. Surely a year or two ago Google would have been a partner on this.

Jobs said developers can add the advertising capability “in an afternoon” and Apple will sell and host ads for a 60/40 split. The demo (in HTML5) showed an interact Toy Story ad, which actually looks like an app itself complete with its own game, finding show times, and an option to buy a companion game on the app store.

    Let’s wait and see.
